End of the Beginning??

I found that most of the different things that we worked on helped with the vision of what my class can be and the fun I can have with the students. To encourage them through the use of this technology will allow them to succeed in their careers.
The amount of technology that is out in the real world will only increase so our responsibilities as educators is to make sure our students thrive in our class room by giving them every opportunity to excel.
Before beginning this class, I was aware of the technology available to assist the teacher in and out of the instruction time.  So ready to excite my students with all of this technological education.
I do plan on maintaining a blog for the benefit of the students and parents, for information as well as for instruction.  I hope that all of this information and technology is available in all schools for the benefit of the students and their futures.

Thing #23

plcmcl2-about.blogspot.com/
This is a website I searched in Google for in reference to 23 Things. Helene Blowers, Public Services Technology Director for the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County (PLCMC), set up 23 Things as a program for the staff. 23 Things is a loose interpretation of the 43Things website, which  allowed you to set and track personal goals and 43 Things I (or You) might want to do this year, an article by Stephen Abram. The 23 Things in our 3040 class, was taken from someone's idea and work.
I will use the Creative Commons and as well as the copyright videos in my classes so the students can see that it is only fair to give credit where credit is due.

Thing #22

My binders titles are 1) Persuasive Writing, 2) Research Paper and 3) Poetry in the 20th century

The one I am sharing is the poetry in the 20th century

This is a neat website and will be useful to the students for portfolio projects as well as research papers. Then they can save their work instead of having to print it. In case they get into a subject and change their mind about one of the sources, then it is just a matter of adding the new one and not printing a lot of new stuff. Working on a research paper, they can look at it all on line and then have the binder so the teacher can look at it to see where the search information came from.
I think for the teacher this will be great to keep documents and project ideas and such.  It will consume less space than the hardbound binders and reduce research time for projects and information. Keeping up with tests from year to year and handouts, will make it so much easier.

Animoto is awesome. I am going to look into this for use in the classroom for projects for students.  I never knew anything like this was out there and this is so cool. The endless possibilities are staggering of how to use this within an English III class on research or literature.  The students will have a great time just putting stuff together. So neat.

This is such a great motivation video for me as a teacher.  This is why I want to teach.  I think that youtube offers so much in the way of visual aids that we are fortunate in this day and time to have it around.  This is not something that was around for me as a student in high school and I see that it can make a total difference in the learning levels of all students.  Visual aids can be used to motivate the students.

Thing #19

I just recently became a member of TeacherPop. I became a Twitter member in January or February of this year, 2012 for my 3040 EDUC Technologies class. I have been a Facebook member since February 2009.   Facebook keeps me in touch with my friends and reconnects us with old friends.  I joined Facebook in 2009 to get in touch with our classmates for a 25 year class reunion. Facebook was how we communicated, since we are all so busy and spread out across the nation.  Personally I think on an individual basis it is great.
I think I will use the social sites to remind students and parents about homework, tests and extracurricular activities.

Thing #18

Here is my twitter tag: @ataylor9
Social networking sites are a means of keeping up with what is going on.  They can be used for good and bad.  The kids don't mind putting their whole life story for everyone to read. Some people put every little thing they do, "I sneezed in Chem class today", "I am going to the store" and being "tagged" or "poked" are just a few of the hazardous (silly) aspects to deal with.
As educators they can relay ethical information to students and parents such as reminders about homework or parent-teacher conferences, but should not be used as a one-on-one basis for privacy issues. They can keep the educator in contact with other educators and keep an open mode of communication.
As an administrative tool, they can be used to observe acts of cyber bullying or even in-school antics of upcoming pranks.  I do not think that these should used between the teacher and student, but between  teacher and parents.
I think in class as a learning tool, they could be useful, but you would have to have some pretty upstanding students that you know that you could trust with the privilege.  Potential for positive school wide or extra-curricular activities could be a benefit to using them.
